Cleaning the washing machine

July 24, 2007

I cleaned my washing machine the other day and I’m so proud I have to post about it, ha ha! I got a “recipe” from www.recipezaar.com/63666. Remember DO NOT mix vinegar and bleach! When the machine was full of hot water and bleach I donned my rubber gloves and got an old rag and scrubbed around the rim of the machine and in the fabric softener container. Every time I open it up now I smile. I am posting the recipe here too. Good luck!

Needed: 1 qt. bleach and 1 qt. vinegar (DO NOT MIX)

  1. Fill your washer with hot water.
  2. Add 1 qt of chlorine bleach (no detergent please!).
  3. Run the washer through the longest wash cycle.
  4. When the washer is still wet- this should be immediately after the bleach cycle- add 1 qt of white vinegar and run the washer through the same cycle again refilling the tub with hot water.
  5. This will clean out soap scum and mineral deposits from the spin basket and also from the hoses.
